Un centinaio di macchine da cucire occupano una parte dell’ampio capannone. Sono sovrastate da tubi, strutture metalliche, molle sospese, tubature argentate. I ferri da stiro si alternano alle macchine, alle relle per abiti dove insieme ai capi sono appesi i cartamodelli.

C’è un caos ritmico, una leggerezza scomposta.

“Nonostante il pensiero” nasce durante una residenza per artisti, Materia, all’interno di un’azienda che confeziona abiti di alta qualità e che mi ha messo a disposizione materiale e spazio per lavorare.

La serie di teli e sculture nasce dal semplice desiderio di lavorare con quella leggerezza e libertà che lo spazio mi ha suggerito. È un lavoro istintivo: il pensiero rimane sospeso, il fare è più veloce, lo sorpassa senza farsi troppe domande. Nonostante il pensiero prosegue un lavoro sui tessuti iniziato nel 2019. La scelta di lavorare anche con questo materiale e di affiancarlo alla costante realizzazione di collages su carta, è stato un passaggio naturale e necessario che ha aumentato l’ampiezza dei lavori e rafforzato la loro relazione con lo spazio.

About one hundred sewing machines occupy a part of the large shed. They are surmounted by pipes, metal structures, suspended springs, silver-plated pipes. Flat-irons alternate with the machines and with garment relays. The paper patterns are hung together with the clothes.

There is rhythmic chaos, a deconstructed lightness.

“Despite the thought” was born during an Artists in Residence experience, Materia, within a company that makes high-quality clothes and has provided me with material and room to work. The series of canvases and sculptures was born from the simple desire to work with that lightness and freedom that space suggested. It is an instinctive work: thinking remains suspended, doing is faster and overtakes it without asking too many questions. “Despite the thought” is the continuation of a work on fabrics started in 2019. The choice to work with this material in parallel with collages on paper was natural and necessary. It has increased the size of the works and strengthened their relationship with space
